Molly Gareis, M.S.Ed.

Who am I?

Currently, I am a graduate student at the College of William & Mary working on my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.  As a graduate student, and a prelicensed counselor, I will provide counseling services under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor at Abundant Life Partners.  My first career was in education where I was a public elementary and middle school teacher before spending years at home raising my three children.  For the past fifteen years, I served as the director and two-year old teacher in a parent cooperative preschool.  My passion for working with parents and children inspired me to become a counselor.

Mindfulness is an important part of my life and I am training to become a certified mindfulness meditation teacher.  I believe that mindfulness brings an awareness into our lives that allows us to be more present for ourselves and our loved ones. That presence helps us to hold our joys and sorrows as we learn to accept life as it is in each moment. With this acceptance, we can see more clearly how to focus our energy to create the life we want.

My husband and I have been married for thirty years and have three grown children who are in their twenties.  In my free time I enjoy reading, traveling, working in my garden, and spending time with family.

I love working with:

  • Parenting issues of all ages and stages
  • Children and adolescents
  • Young adults
  • Life transitions
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Stress management
  • Intergenerational patterns in families

Some of my favorite approaches include:

I have an integrative approach to counseling which means I like to combine different theories in my work.  I believe people grow and change when we find acceptance of life in the present moment and meet what we find with compassion. As you undertake your healing journey, I will strive to create and hold a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your life story and challenges. I will be fully present with you as you learn powerful and effective ways to move towards the goals you set. Your personal goals and presenting concerns will determine what types of interventions are used in session.  I most often draw from:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Compassion Focused Therapy
  • Mindfulness-Based Therapy
  • Creative Therapies
