Who am I?
I am Sarah Merten and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Previously, I used to be a Middle and High School teacher where I taught Family and Consumer Science. I am a military spouse and have experienced a PCS and 2 deployments. My hobbies include spending time with my family and 2 dogs, rescuing dogs (oh the stories I can tell!), shopping at Trader Joes and Costco, hiking and exploring our region. I also am passionate about our local community and spend time volunteering in our community.
Before joining ALP, I was working at CHKD with children and families. I have also worked in private practice in Georgia, as well as with an in home agency and providing in school mental health support to elementary students.
Some of my favorite approaches include:
My favorite treatment approaches typically involve a collaborative approach with the client. I bring in a variety of techniques and skills to blend together for the best treatment.
I enjoy PCIT (parent child interaction therapy) as I love seeing the success parents and children experience when working together. This treatment is reserved for families who are able to commit to weekly sessions and daily homework. PCIT is beneficial for behavioral concerns and utilizes a positive parenting approach.
