Who am I?
Hi! I’m Leah, I am a Resident in Counseling. I graduated with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University in 2022. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Lynchburg in 2016. I have had the opportunity to work in private practice throughout my internship, and I have loved working with people of all different stages of life. I am passionate about working with people to live the life they want and navigate life’s challenges and find joy where we can.
I have been married to my husband since January 2022, and we have been living in the Williamsburg area ever since. We love to travel and adventure together, while also keeping ourselves organized and relaxed! I love to bring that duality into my sessions- finding adventure together but also maintaining some structure and plans!
I love working with:
I love working with all kinds of people, especially young adults and couples. I have experience with grief work and helping individuals process loss. I love working with relationship issues, life transitions, trauma, depression, and anxiety. I feel called to provide faith-based counseling where I can, since I believe that our faith impacts us just as much as our mind and our body. Some of my favorite approaches include:
I tend to work from the perspective of person-centered, meaning that you are in charge and everything we do together is collaborative, because you’re the expert on you! I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to talk about how our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings are all intertwined, as well as Solution-Focused. Understanding why we’re experiencing things is important, but so is figuring out what to do with them! I work from a point of empathy, collaboration, and listening to help you get what you need to enjoy the fullness of life, even when the hardships hit.
