Isaac Goncalves, MSW

I was born and raised in Brasil until immigrating to the US in 1999. As a child, I experienced many transitions that, at times, felt out of my control. Having supportive relationships through life’s ever-changing tides is extremely important. Sometimes, knowing that you are not alone is all you need to stay afloat. In therapy, I seek to create a trauma-sensitive environment where individuals know they can be open and honest about their feelings and thoughts, knowing they are not alone and they are accepted.

As a social worker, I believe that every individual has a right to self-determination. Meaning, that my role is to encourage and empower individuals to make their own choices and decisions. By employing a Systems Theory approach to therapy, I partner with clients to help them explore how social environmental factors play a role in their decision-making and well being and how they have the capacity and power to achieve their goals and influence their social environment.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, college students, young adults and parents. In my previous work, I helped develop community-based programs that sought to enhance self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness in children and adolescents.

I am currently pursuing my Masters of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Social Work. My current work at Abundant Life Partners primarily focuses on sessions with individuals, families, and groups.
