Isaac Goncalves, MSW

I was born and raised in Brasil until immigrating to the US in 1999. As a child, I experienced many transitions that, at times, felt out of my control. Having supportive relationships through life’s ever-changing tides is extremely important. Sometimes, knowing that you are not alone is all you need to stay afloat. In therapy, I seek to create a trauma-sensitive environment where individuals know they can be open and honest about their feelings and thoughts, knowing they are not alone and they are accepted.

As a social worker, I believe that every individual has a right to self-determination. Meaning, that my role is to encourage and empower individuals to make their own choices and decisions. By employing a Systems Theory approach to therapy, I partner with clients to help them explore how social/environmental factors play a role in their decision-making and well-being.

I have a Masters of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Social Work. I have experience working with children, adolescents, college students, young adults, older adults, couples, families, and groups.

In my previous work, I helped develop community-based programs in the non-profit sector in NYC.

My current work at Abundant Life Partners primarily focuses on: Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, ADHD, ASD, OCD, ODD, Grief, Trauma, and issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community.
