Spiritual & Pastoral
Care & Consulting
Grace and peace as you seek to live fully into who you were created to be. I am thrilled to provide a faith-based perspective alongside the other therapeutic care and practices for our Abundant Life clients. I hope to provide much needed soul care to help you remember who you are and whose you are.
Often, we seek care for our souls within faith communities. Sometimes, soul care needs to be provided outside the bounds of a traditional congregation or faith. According to David Benner (2003), Care of Souls or “cura animarum” is an ancient Christian tradition of pastoral care that is holistic in nature, concerning the whole person, and is inherently spiritual. It addresses your relationship to God, as well as your faith-informed commitments to others and to yourself.
While soul care may include examination of feelings, beliefs, and behaviors as they affect your faith, it is distinct and separate from any kind of psychotherapy. It is not a psychological service. For instance, soul care does not address consultees’ clinical symptoms or psychological disorders. These situations will be referred to mental health professionals, appropriately and as necessary. Additionally, I will provide consultations with your mental health provider on matters of faith, advancing your therapeutic goals.
Soul care is collaborative. Sessions are time-limited, and the duration is short-term, as this is to augment the other therapeutic work you are already doing or will do in the future. Soul care may include ministry-related resource recommendations and referrals. Issues addressed may include one’s awareness of God; acceptance of God’s grace; repentance and responsibility; responses to God’s leadership; involvement in your church; experience of fellowship with others; Christian ethics; and openness to faith.
For clergy and full-time ministry workers, I will offer soul care services addressing the unique challenges of full time ministry. I hope to provide a brave space for honest sharing and understanding, so that ministry persons can serve in the world while honoring their own needs for a well-balanced life.
Soul care sessions are $100 per 60-minute sessions (or occasionally, $50 per 30-minute sessions, if applicable.)
I bring 15+ years of congregational and hospital ministry experience to Abundant Life, as an Ordained Elder in full connection with The North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. I have my Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and my Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from Virginia Tech. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, loving on my fur babies, and dipping my toes in the ocean.
