Hello, my name is Megan. I began the path to social work because I wanted to make my community a more loving and just place. In this world, brokenness and hurt are familiar to us all. By working together, it’s my goal to empower you to find healing and resilience in the midst of pain, utilizing the strengths you already have. I hope to help you see your story with more curiosity and compassion. Throughout our time together, I am here to create a warm environment where you can feel safe and accepted. Creating a strong relationship with clients is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic process for me. It would be an honor to walk alongside you.
A native to Virginia, I was raised in Richmond and attended James Madison University where I received my Bachelor’s in Social Work. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with my Master’s in Social Work and am now working toward my LCSW. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, college students, and young adults. While in graduate school, I completed my field practicum in a private practice where I gained experience working with others who encounter difficulty with anxiety, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and trauma. In session, I love to incorporate creative interventions like play-based therapy, art, and yoga. My approach to counseling is tailored to the needs of each individual and centered on evidence-based practices. Some of my preferred therapeutic models include psychodynamic therapy, strengths-based approach, and Family Systems Theory. I am passionate about treating the whole person, recognizing the important connection between mind, body, and spirit. For example, I support clients in understanding more about how their body responds to stress by building on self-awareness skills. As a Christian, I am happy to incorporate a Biblical perspective into our time together when requested.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends at any cute coffee shop, going for a walk, reading one too many books at a time, and heading to a local farmer’s market to fuel my next cooking adventure!
