What is Growing Up Strong?
This group is a fun, action-packed way for kids ages 7-9 to practice social skills, learn ways to manage emotions, and connect with other kids in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Kids won't even realize they are learning and growing emotionally as they participate in interactive games, crafts, and activities aimed at developing social skills and coping skills.
Who is this group for?
Boys and girls ages 7-9 who struggle with sadness, loneliness, anxiety, worry, social challenges, or lack of confidence can all benefit from Growing Up Strong. On the surface these kids might look like they have it all together. They may get good grades and behave well in school ... they are overall good kids. At home, however, they express worry, fears, or lack of confidence. They may have outbursts over small things and struggle to control their emotions after "keeping it together" all day at school. They may have crying outbursts and may not be able to articulate why. Their parents may wonder if this is all "normal" or if there's more to done to help their son or daughter.
What topics will be covered in the group?
- Anxiety ... developing coping skills to manage the stresses of academics, extracurriculars, social life, and everyday fears
- Friendships ... learn to navigate the ups and downs of peer relationships and develop social skills
- Identity ... gain confidence and begin thinking about values and character traits
The Bottom Line???
It's never too early to learn the skills to manage friendships, difficult emotions, and challenging circumstances...all while having fun!
